One of the most common issues facing dental patients is gum disease, or periodontal treatment. The beginning of gum disease is known as gingivitis. In this early stage, a professional cleaning can remedy the situation. Weβll also provide tips on how to prevent it from reoccurring.
If your gum disease has progressed beyond gingivitis, we will need to take further actions to correct it. A special cleaning called scaling and root planing will remove plaque and tartar build up and smooth the gum tissues to allow them to heal and reattach to your teeth. We may also recommend medicine to control any infection that may be present and promote healing.
If scaling and root planing cannot adequately promote healing, surgery may be needed. Surgery will allow the removal of plaque and tartar in the entire surface of the tooth, and to then stitch the gum back snugly against your tooth.
