Lowell, MA – Dentures are a great restoration option to replace missing teeth for patients who are missing more than 2 or 3 teeth. Like any other treatment, cost usually is the main barrier factor for patients, and it is one of the first questions almost every patient asks. There is no single price for “dentures”; denture costs can vary widely depending on the chosen treatment plan ranging from 1,500 to 15,000. Dr. Vihangi Thakore of Lowell Dental Arts breaks down the actual costs and the factors that determine the cost in this article.
The 3 main types of dentures include full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported ones. The cost of each type is different, and they are built to address different needs.
The main factors that determine denture cost:
1. Number of teeth to be replaced and the location of them in the mouth
2. Type of denture, whether it rests directly on the gums (tissue-supported) or is anchored to implants (implant-supported)
3. Quality of the materials used (standard acrylic resin, metal frameworks, or premium tooth components)
4. Whether any preparatory treatments are required (such as extractions, bone grafting, or gum treatment)
Average estimated costs for various types of dentures are stated in the following table.
Full Dentures
$1,500 – $3,000
Custom-made using a traditional resin base; the total cost for a full set (upper and lower jaws) typically ranges from $3,000 to $6,000.
Partial Dentures
$900 – $2,800
For replacing a small number of missing teeth, using a cast metal framework, flexible resin, or resin base.
Implant-Supported (Overdenture)
$6,000 – $15,000
Removable dentures secured by 2 to 4 dental implants.
Implant-Supported (Fixed, e.g. All-on-4)
$21,000 – $38,000
Permanent restorations fixed onto surgically placed implants; no need to remove for cleaning.
Note that the cost of prerequisite treatments such as tooth extractions (which can range from $150 to $500+ per tooth) and any bone grafting procedures are typically calculated separately and are not included in the cost of the dentures themselves.
We at Lowell Dental Arts do extractions in-house, but for bone grafting and some complex extractions, we refer you to an expert oral surgeon.
In Massachusetts and Lowell, replacing all teeth in the upper or lower jaw using a traditional full denture set will usually cost between $1,500 and $3,000 for one arch. If the patient requires dentures for both the upper and lower jaws (which is usually the case for most of the patients), the total cost for a full set of traditional dentures (before any insurance reimbursement) will then range from $3,000 to $6,000. Costs tend toward the higher end of this range if premium materials are selected, such as layered resin teeth that provide a realistic appearance or bases that give a more precise fit.
If you are missing only a few teeth (for example, four consecutive teeth), a partial denture (removable denture) is often your best option. The cost of partial dentures in Massachusetts varies from $900 to $2,800 per arch depending on whether a cast metal framework, flexible resin, or a simple resin base is used. While cast metal frameworks have a higher initial cost, they are generally more durable and provide a more precise fit.
Implant-supported dentures lie at the end of the cost spectrum, yet for a lot of patients, they offer the most valuable option. In the Lowell area, the cost for a removable overdenture secured by two to four implants usually falls between $6,000 and $15,000 per arch. Fixed full-arch restoration solutions, such as All-on-4, are the most expensive solutions (from $21,000 to $38,000 per arch). This is because the price includes both the implant surgery and the permanent implant-anchored dentures. Although the total cost for a fixed full-arch restoration solution is much higher, it offers a vastly different experience regarding chewing, speaking, and daily comfort compared to removable dentures.
Insurance coverage often differs from state to state, from one insurance company to another, and from one plan to another. Many dental insurance plans here in Massachusetts put denture treatment under the “major service” category, which means that after a waiting period of 6 to 12 months, insurance can cover around 50% of the cost, limited to an annual maximum benefit (usually between $1,000 and $2,000). Since the limit resets on a yearly basis, strategically scheduling your appointments so that the treatment can fall into two calendar years can significantly impact your out-of-pocket expenses.
Original Medicare rarely covers the cost of dentures. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer yearly dental allowances (normally from $500 to $3,000 per year), which can be used toward denture-related treatments, though exact coverage and other details can vary depending on the plan. MassHealth is different in that first-time dentures and partial dentures are a covered benefit for both children and adults (if qualified), though for members 21 and older, coverage is subject to a combined yearly limit of $1,750 (effective August 2026); dental implants are not covered under MassHealth. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to verify your benefits before finalizing a treatment plan.
For patients without insurance, Lowell Dental Arts offers a $350 credit towards upper or lower dentures (complete or partial), which can be combined with a financing option through CareCredit for more convenient monthly payments. Financing options are also available for patients whose coverage does not fully reimburse the cost of dentures. Before any treatment begins, our team will clearly explain your benefits through your insurance plan to ensure there will be no unexpected costs later down the road.
